Jaguar I-PACE 2022 electric car owner review

Phil drives a Jaguar I-PACE 90kWh 2022.

This is Phil’s first electric car, he’s owned the I-PACE from new and drives between 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 225 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Jaguar I-PACE?

Looks, performance, handling & build quality. It may sound strange but ‘it fits me’. The seat, steering wheel & pedal positions are all perfect for me. At the time of ordering (Nov 21) it was a choice between a Tesla S and the I-PACE.

I had multiple extended test drives in both and the two Teslas I drove had something wrong with them: the seat control nob was broken & the other the main screen went completely blank across the top 3rd. Plus, the Jaguar definitely felt better quality & more luxurious/refined.

I ordered the I-PACE Black edition, it arrived at the end of May and I absolutely love it. There is only one slight regret and that is the on test drives I had, the I-PACEs I drove had air suspension. That was not available without a considerable additional wait, so I have the more conventional sprung suspension and on a particularly uneven road surface it can be a little bouncy. However, that is me being ultra-critical because in every other respect it is fantastic on the road.

  • slightly bouncy on very uneven road surface
  • external door unlock buttons hard to find in the dark.

None

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • I have the new Pivi Pro infotainment system and it works brilliantly
  • Android Auto (wireless) is excellent
  • On a snowy/icy hill, the snow mode performs brilliantly.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

I love the way it displays the Jaguar puddle lighting on the floor when you unlock the car.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I just don’t know. I will probably keep this one for about 3 years and right now there aren’t any other cars particularly turning my eye. I suspect my next EV hasn’t been released yet.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

Ohme Home Pro 7kW – it works perfectly, is easy to control with the app and gives me the option for solar panels later on. As a result it being only 7kW it takes about 13 hours to fully charge from almost empty.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

I am on a 3-year fixed tariff with Sainsbury’s until Jan 2024 so my bills are low right now (about £13 for a full charge). Not looking forward to finding my next fixed price deal!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

InstaVolt have always given me good charging rates and seem to be working most of the time. If you have time, the 50kW Pod Point chargers at some Lidl sites are really good value.

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Aviva – very good price and have just added out of charge cover (started Dec 22).

Please itemise where you’re saving money owning & running an electric car

I have done 5,000 miles, road tax, fuel costs, servicing all less. I estimate I’m currently saving around £150 per month over my previous petrol vehicle and although the purchase cost was higher the servicing will be less when required.
