Nissan LEAF (1st gen): Getting started with an electric car

Jeremy drives a 1st generation Nissan LEAF and shares how he got started with this electric car.

Why did you buy the Nissan LEAF?

We already had a large diesel car and we needed to replace the second car so we thought we would buy a second-hand electric car to see whether we liked it.

What got you into an electric car in the first place?

It was a second car and at the time we got the wall mounted charger almost free with a grant.

Initially, what did you find most confusing about electric car ownership and how did you solve that?

One pedal driving takes some getting used to and on our first 2 Nissan LEAFs I couldn’t get on with it. On our Mustang Mach-E I use it all the time.

What sources of information helped you e.g. people, groups, websites etc?

Internet research and the car’s manual.

What are your top 3 pieces of advice for those people considering their first electric car?

  • Don’t worry about range as you can use more of the available mileage if you have a home charger. You don’t worry about your phone, you just plug it in!
  • Enjoy driving again! It is very relaxing
  • Enjoy the instant throttle response whatever make of car. Although some take off like a stabbed rat!
