Why did you choose this car?
As a second car it seemed to offer the most comfort and features and although a hatch offered a good load space in the absence of estates at the time, we bought it.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car?

  • The efficiency of the IONIQ is fantastic, I regularly achieve in excess of 5 miles/kWh
  • The comfort levels and accessories are superb, as they say the car is ‘fully loaded’
  • It has exceeded my expectations of range on many occasions, even with a ‘regular’ driving style.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car?

  • The aesthetics of the exterior leave a lot to be desired, it’s a bit of an ugly duckling.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
I once achieved 225 miles range and still made it home. This was due to several chargers en route not working.

What EV are you interested in next and why?
Tesla Model 3, we’ve reached a point where owning 2 EVs is unnecessary, especially since the pandemic, we don’t drive as much and feel we can lease a model 3 cheaper than the figure we currently pay out for the IONIQ and Kona combined.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
zappi – excellent unit, I have solar and a storage battery and an Eddi unit to heat my hot water. This enables me to utilise the generated solar where I want it.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Octopus Agile – although this isn’t proving as cost effective as I’d hoped and I’m thinking about switching to their ‘Go’ tariff.

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
BP Pulse, GeniePoint and the most reliable Instavolt. Instavolt always works, the others can be a bit hit and miss.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Aviva on a multi-car policy with my classic car, good value and easy to make a claim, sadly we’ve made a couple in recent years for minor accidents and they’ve been brilliant.
