Nissan LEAF 2018 Owner Review

Geoff Rogers drives a Nissan LEAF 40kWh 2018.

This is Geoff’s first electric car, he’s owned the Nissan LEAF 3-4 years and drives between 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 30,000-40,000 miles and he achieves 130 miles from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the Nissan LEAF?

Test drive, loved it and within price range.

Positives

  • Drives well
  • reliable
  • cheap to run
  • spacious.

Negatives

  • Range could be better
  • Nissan are turning off the phone app this month, not happy about that
  • no other issues.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

No, it’s dropped from 165 miles to about 155 miles on a single charge.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & e-Pedal, which is very handy
  • heated steering wheel and seats
  • good navigation system
  • useful front and reversing camera with parking guidelines.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Nissan LEAF

Surprisingly fast for an ordinary looking car.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That they pollute more than ICE cars.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

BYD or MG – these Chinese cars seem very well specced at a good price.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

Yes

Do you have a home charging unit installed?

No

Electricity supplier & tariff

Intelligent Octopus G0 tariff

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Pod Point and Lidl. Fast chargers are too expensive but AC chargers are just about affordable.

Insurance

Saga insurance – same as for my previous diesel car.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Nissan LEAF

Energy costs and maintenance much cheaper. And of course, ULEZ compliant.
