Ian Sterrett drives a Renault Scenic E-Tech Esprit Alpine 87kWh 2025, standard specification.
This is Ian’s first electric car, he’s owned the Scenic E-Tech less than a year and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 244 miles from an 80% charge.
Why did you choose this car?
- Long range
- family size
- appearance
- comfort.
Positives
- Beautiful to look at
- a technological marvel!
Negatives
- Ride is a bit hard on pot-holed country roads (same with most EVs)
- reversing camera is off-centre (drives my OCD nuts!) but the view is perfect – a dash of RainX on the lens has fixed early wet weather issues.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Yes, but car only 2 months old.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
No faults
What are the standout technological features of the car?
- Cat B autonomous driving
- reverse camera
- parking sensors front and side
- heated front seats and steering wheel
- two-zone climate control
- cabin air refresh
- driver’s seat ‘relax’ mode with massage function
- paddle regen braking with one pedal drive mode
- face recognition camera.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Renault 5 and Renault Twingo (stylish and fun).
Home charging unit
Andersen A3 (7kWh)
Electricity supplier & tariff
Intelligent Octopus Go – 5,000 miles free charging credit applied to account from Andersen)
Do you use public charging networks?
No
Insurance
One Call Insurance – It cost me about £85 to change my insurance from my Audi A3 petrol to the Renault Scenic. This was expected as EVs are seen as higher risk by the insurance industry.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Renault Scenic E-Tech
Fuel costs – unbelievable savings! All of my charging is done at night at 7p per kWh. We try to put the dishwasher on (timed) at night and the washing machine to take advantage of the low tariff.
