Living with the 2025 Kia EV4 GT-Line (81.4kWh): My Honest Owner Review
Reviewer Name: York Happy Kia driver
Why I Chose the Kia EV4 GT-Line
I am certainly no stranger to electric motoring—this 2025 Kia EV4 is actually my third electric car. Having owned a Kia previously, I already had complete confidence in the brand’s build quality and dependability. When it came time to switch, the EV4 stood out immediately thanks to a winning combination of sharp exterior styling, punchy performance, proven Kia reliability, and a very generous standard specification.
I opted for the GT-Line trim in grey with no optional extras needed, as the standard kit list on this model is already packed with everything you could ask for—including 19-inch GT-Line alloy wheels, sleek gloss-black detailing, flush door handles, and a ultra-modern cabin.
What I Love Most: Comfort, Space & Effortless Performance
Covering between 5,000 and 10,000 miles a year, a car needs to be easy to live with every single day, and the EV4 excels here. The standout positives for me are the overall comfort, the remarkably spacious interior, and the sheer driveability of the car. Whether I’m popping into town or settling in for a longer motorway stint, the cabin feels airy, refined, and supportive.
If I had to share the ‘best-kept secret’ of the Kia EV4, it’s the effortless acceleration. With 201 bhp and instant electric torque on tap, there is a quiet satisfaction in knowing I can comfortably outperform most petrol and diesel cars away from the lights whenever I need to!
Real-World Range & Battery Performance
My GT-Line model comes equipped with the Long Range 81.4 kWh battery pack (78kWh usable). Day-to-day, I reliably achieve an average of 280 miles from an 80% charge. When charging all the way to 100% for longer trips, I have seen the range read right up to an impressive 384 miles, exceeding the official WLTP figures!
Now between 5,000 and 10,000 miles into ownership, the battery still feels as fresh as day one. I haven’t noticed any battery degradation whatsoever; the only fluctuation in range is the slight dip during cold winter weather, which is completely normal for any EV.
Favourite Tech & Safety Features
Kia always delivers on technology, and the EV4’s dual 12.3-inch panoramic display setup is brilliant. My favourite tech features are the built-in satellite navigation system, which is clear, intuitive, and reliable, alongside the comprehensive suite of active safety systems. Features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert work seamlessly in the background and give me massive peace of mind on busy roads.
The Negatives & Any Issues
No car is completely without its quirks, though my frustrations with the EV4 have been very minor:
-
App Connectivity: My main day-to-day frustration has been occasional hiccups connecting to the Kia Connect app.
-
Noisy Wipers: The only mechanical fault I’ve experienced is a set of noisy front windscreen wipers. Thankfully, this is being sorted under warranty, and I am currently waiting for a replacement wiper assembly to be fitted by the dealership.
Home & Public Charging Experience
I do the vast majority of my charging at home using a Pod Point wallbox, paired with an Octopus Solar Battery EV tariff. While the tariff itself is great, my one frustration with my home setup is that my Pod Point unit is now around six years old, meaning it’s too old to be recognised by Octopus for automated smart charging.
When I’m away from home, the EV4’s rapid charging speeds are fantastic. I recently used the Fuuse network at a hotel where chargers had been newly installed; the app was excellent to set up and very straightforward to use. For general public charging, I also rely on my Octopus Electroverse card, which makes life so much easier by allowing public charging sessions at compatible networks to be billed directly to my home energy account.
Insurance & Running Costs: Is It Saving Me Money?
Insuring the EV4 has been completely hassle-free with no EV-specific headaches, and my policy even includes built-in cover in the unlikely event of running out of battery.
As for whether the EV4 is saving me money compared to petrol or diesel? 100%, you only have to look at current fuel prices at the pumps to see the difference. Even when relying on public chargers, the value is clear: I recently topped the car up on a public unit from 45% to 100% for just £24, which left me with a massive 384 miles of range. You simply couldn’t get close to that cost-per-mile in a conventional combustion car. (Based on energy prices as of October 2026)
Verdict: Would I Buy Another Kia EV?
Without a doubt. The 2025 Kia EV4 GT-Line has proven to be a stylish, spacious, rapid-charging, and economical electric car. In fact, when the time eventually comes to trade in my keys, Kia will remain right at the top of my list—with the Kia EV5 firmly on my radar as my next electric vehicle!
