Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD 2022 Owner Review

Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD 2022 Owner Review

Sonicboom75uk drives a Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD 75kWh, standard specification.

This is Sonic’s first EV and he’s owned the Model Y less than a year. He drives 15,000-20,000 miles annually and the current mileage of the car is between 15,000-20,000 miles. He achieves 200-230 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the Tesla Model Y?

I brought a Mercedes EQA for my wife as she just potters around. I needed a van as I’m a gas engineer & was contemplating an estate car because vans don’t do the range, so I did lots of homework. I discovered that the Tesla Model Y has an 800+ litre boot & it works perfectly for me as I can fit my tools in & a boiler in the car with the seats down! I can also fit a 3 metre pipe from the back to the footwell.

The range is perfect and the comfort is great too. I had a VW Transporter van and it would have cost me £6,500 in fuel across a year but in getting 7p per kWh from home charging & utilising the Tesla Supercharger Network, it’s only cost me £780 for about 20,000 miles this year. I wish Tesla would make a 7-seater ID. Buzz type-of-car, too.

Positives

  • The space
  • the speed
  • the range computer is bang on.

Negatives

  • The Model Y price when new is a lot but I bought a 3 year old.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Great, as far as I am aware.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The sound system is amazing & the cruise control/self-driving  function, when it’s fully released in the UK.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Model Y

With the current hot weather, my car can be cooled from anywhere & it’s so nice to get into a car that is always cool. I sit in the car chilling!

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I am waiting for Tesla to make a mini van, a bit like the Kia EV5 or VW ID. Buzz. I have heard on the grapevine that something will be released soon.

Home charging unit

Hypervolt

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla because it’s so easy, just pull up, plug in & walk away. You know the Tesla is charging but with the wife’s EQA, you have to mess around finding what app to use and how to use it. It’s so confusing all these different chargers and none are like the Tesla Supercharger Network.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model Y

Huge saving as it’s cost me £780 to do 18-20k miles this year where the VW 9-seater transporter would have cost me £6,500 to do the same number of miles.
