Derek Clark drives a Volkswagen ID.4 78kWh 2023.

This is Derek’s third electric car, he’s owned the ID.4 from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 280 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Volkswagen ID.4?

I’ve had 2 previous electric cars, a Kia e-Niro and an MG ZS. The e-Niro was good but too low for me. The MG developed a lot of software faults which the dealer could not correct. I have had the ID.4 for 4 months with no problems.

Positives

• Smooth drive

• Lack of public chargers.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Just experienced a sat nav problem, not been to dealer yet.

Cooling system for water bottle.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That they catch fire easily. My son who is a firefighter with the LFB tells me he sees more petrol and diesel fires.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Probably stay with VW as I like the current range and quality.
