FIAT 500e 2021 electric car owner review

Prima Lady drives a FIAT 500e La Prima 42kWh 2021.

This is Prima Lady’s first electric car, she’s owned the FIAT 500e less than a year and drives under 5,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and she achieves 175 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the FIAT 500e?

Second ’round town’ car for low annual mileage, we liked the colour and it’s cheap to charge.

Positives

  • Pretty
  • fun to drive
  • economical for our use.

Negatives

  • Driver’s seat needs to go back one more click but can’t
  • battery is quick to drop in winter
  • cameras fail to work when raining.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

We are losing range, fully charged is now 175 miles in theory (original manufacturer’s spec was 200). We never drop below 20% and charge to no more than 90%. FIAT will not extend our warranty even though we are happy to pay. We will be servicing as per spec and batteries are guaranteed for 8 years but will not explain what is a warranty claim on this.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Only the rain stopping cameras from working, which is now being addressed.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Auto braking & voice commands.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

It is quick and just leaves a smile on my face when I drive! The charging costs are really good too!

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

They overload the national grid.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Waiting on Ford Estates.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

Yes

Do you have a home charging unit installed?

No

Three pin plug?

The cost is not that bad, we still use the three pin plug system as it will take us nearly two years to get the cost back for the charging unit.

Do you use public charging networks?

No

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a FIAT 500e

Tax, cheaper to run and charge. We think we’re saving around £85 a month.
