Dave A drives a FIAT 500 La Prima 42kWh 2022.
This is Dave’s first electric car, he’s owned the FIAT 500 from new and drives between 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 500-1,000 miles and he achieves 161 miles from a full charge.
Why did you choose the FIAT 500e?
- Size – wanted a small electric car
- Style – not an anonymous box on wheels
- Equipment – level 2 autonomous control, heated seats, safety features.
Positives
- Style
- makes me smile
- comfort
- well built (no rattles).
Negatives
- Boot space – not a problem 95% of the time
- unable to disable headlights – they can only be set to auto or always on
- the ‘pebble’ key doesn’t have a replaceable battery – the other key with buttons does.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Water leak from bottom of door into car, the door membrane was replaced which rectified the problem.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
- Level 2 autonomous driving
- comprehensive media and car settings screen
- effective regen braking – will bring the car to a standstill when approaching junctions.
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your FIAT 500e?
- Internal door release is a push button
- physical switches rather than on-screen touch controls for heating
- no gear selector, buttons on the dashboard instead.
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Not sure, I plan on keeping this car for a few years.
Home charging unit
Ohme Home Pro – once set up, it is simple to use. Not intuitive upon first setting up. Great screen on the unit itself which provides flexibility (don’t need to rely on the app).
Electricity supplier & tariff
Octopus Go – good app & customer service. Great tariff for EV charging.
Do you use public charging networks?
No
Insurance
Saga – competitive pricing, great customer service & includes RAC emergency charging support.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running your FIAT 500e
- Cost of refuelling – 2p per mile electricity instead of 12p per mile for previous car in petrol costs
- cost of finance 1.2%
- insurance slightly cheaper than my previous VW Polo
- servicing (on a service plan) is £80 (average) cheaper than petrol car
Probably saving £80 per month (I do low mileage).
