Mercedes EQA: 2024 Public charging review

Graham shares his experience of public charging with his Mercedes EQA 300 66.5kWh.

What do you think of the UK public charging network in general?

It’s a bit patchy but improving.

What and where are your favourite UK public chargers?

Swansea Services on the M4. Lots and lots of chargers including ones that go way beyond the 100kW maximum on my car. As well as large numbers of CCS2 and other chargers there are many Tesla chargers too.

What’s been your best experience with a UK public charger?

Ease of access (no queuing) at Swansea M4 services. Only need to have a short coffee break to be back up to 80%!

What’s been your worst experience with a UK public charger?

Queuing for well over an hour on two occasions at Cobham Services on the M25. Also, the way the areas are arranged you can’t easily tell who has been queuing longest and is next in line.

What’s got to change about public charging in the UK to get more people driving electric cars?

More chargers at EVERY motorway services and more lower power public chargers in residential areas. Plus, VAT needs to be consistent between home and public charging.
