Genesis GV60 2022 electric car owner review

Christopher Petchelli drives a Genesis GV60 Sport 77kWh 2022.

This is Christopher’s first electric car, he’s owned the Genesis GV60 less than 1 year and drives 20,000-30,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 250 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Genesis GV60?

We chose this car due to my desire of not following the crowd. We loved the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ultimate but when we discovered the Genesis GV60 was the same car but with more tech, better interior and a lot more rarer it was an absolutely no brainer for us. We previously looked at the KIA EV6 but were extremely disappointed with the headroom of the top spec model. Genesis GV60 wiped the floor with both cars, in our opinion.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Fast charging due to the pre heating and 800 volt speed. I have never been at an ultra charger more than 15 minutes.
  • the ‘stand out from the crowd’ looks
  • the interior – buttons for every function and an extremely good infotainment menu layout.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • The gear selector which is highly advertised, I find it quite chavvy and we have nicknamed it ‘the chav ball’
  • when you pre heat the car, if you don’t open the door by the time it has finished reaching the temperature, it sets off the alarm (due to be fixed in the next update apparently)
  • no Isofix in the front passenger seat. For a car which costs £65k I don’t understand why they couldn’t fit a pair of £40 Isofix brackets to the front passenger seat.
  • the child seats are big and bulky due to my children being so young
  • if you have 2 child seats in the rear you essentially lose all three spaces
  • the ability to have one in the front for my 17-month old is vital as you can then have 1 child seat in the rear and 2 adults in the rear also. This is extremely short-sighted by Genesis in my opinion.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

  • To be honest, the car is fairly faultless
  • most faults which were there when I first bought the car have now been rectified by software updates
  • I am 99% happy with the car.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The Tesla-style sat nav where it auto routes you to charge points and pre heats the car is fantastic. I believe it’s better than Tesla’s due to it being able to filter your favourite networks and speeds. It’s not just focused on its own brand. I have asked the sat nav to prioritise MPG, IONITY GRIDSERVE and InstaVolt. This nav feature came with the latest update so if your Genesis has not got it yet then update by USB now! Don’t bother waiting for OTA updates as some Genesis owners are two updates behind.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The special feature of the Genesis GV60 is it’s ‘no compromise’ focus from internal combustion engines. If you make the switch and you have the budget then get a Genesis, it’s the best of all the E-GMP cars. Buttons for everything which can also be found through the menu as well. Well-built, Tesla-like sat nav but better, a motor for everyone depending if you want range (performance model) speed (Sport+ model) or a mixture of both (Sport model). It is an absolutely fantastic car and has made me want to never not own an EV, especially a Genesis. When our salary sacrifice agreement ends we will be looking to buy the Sport+ mode.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

The KIA EV9 – it will have the E-GMP and 800 volt infrastructure but will also have all the benefits of my Hyundai Santa Fe. I am just currently struggling with the price of £80k when my Santa Fe has no finance on it and only costs me 1 tank a month because we only use it when we can’t fit all six of us and prams in the GV60.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

Ohme Pro – it has a very simple app which I can lock remotely and it gives any car access to the Octopus Intelligence Go tariff.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Octopus Energy has fantastic customer service, easy to understand and use & great EV charging times. The only negative for me is the in-home display which tells me it’s £28 a week for example and my bill doesn’t match that figure. Octopus themselves have told me not to rely on it which makes me ask, why have I got it plugged in if it’s constantly wrong?

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

  • IONITY – speed
  • InstaVolt – always works
  • MFG EV Power – always works and most of the time they have great jet washes
  • GRIDSERVE – all of the above.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Genesis GV60

  • I am not saving money at all
  • my EV costs me double what I would pay for an ICE car
  • I have the EV because I love it NOT because it saves me money
  • running costs are cheap but the lease of the GV60 is almost £900 a month. EVs are far too expensive, I have it as an indulgence.
