Why did you purchase a myenergi zappi charging unit?
Ease of integration with my solar panels to use surplus energy.
List 3 or more points that you like about the charging unit
- Good app to monitor solar generation
- times can be set using the app, web portal or the unit itself
- integrates with myenergi eddi to put surplus power to my immersion if insufficient to charge my car.
List 3 or more points that you don’t like about the charging unit
- It seems to take too long to kick in to use surplus power to go to the car.
Outline any faults you have experienced with the unit
Failure of the locking pin which was replaced without issue by myenergi via a new local installer. This revealed an issue with the initial installation which allowed water ingress due to a loose mounting screw and sealing washer, hence the 8 out of 10 for the original installer.
Tell us about your home charging routine
My use of the car varies greatly during the week due to working from home on random days. Weekly mileage can very between less than 50 to over 200. The car is always plugged in when at home. I am on the Intelligent Octopus tariff which puts the charging schedule under their control, all I need to do is choose the required charge level and the time I need to have it completed by and Octopus will arrange the overnight charging schedules to make sure I have the car ready for me in the morning.
If you were buying a new charging unit now, what would you buy and why?
I would still go for a myenergi zappi, it does everything that I need a charging unit to do.
Tell us about your electricity provider and tariff. Would you recommend them?
My energy provider is Octopus Energy and I am on their Intelligent Octopus tariff. This puts the charging schedule under their control, all I need to do is choose the required charge level and the time I need to have it completed by and Octopus will arrange the overnight charging schedules to make sure I have the car ready for me in the morning.
Are you part of a charger-sharing scheme for those who don’t have their own charger?
I’m not on any charger sharing scheme. I was on one and then started receiving unsolicited mail wanting me to transfer to another energy provider using a referral code so I removed myself from it.
