Volkswagen ID.4 2022 electric car owner review

B4kerboy drives a Volkswagen ID.4 Pure 55kWh 2022.

This is B4kerboy’s first electric car, he’s owned the ID.4 from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 180 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Volkswagen ID.4?

We test drove the MG & Kia Niro EV and felt the ID.4 was better and suited our requirements.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Very comfortable
  • large enough to cope
  • quick without being silly.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • The software lets the car down but will be improved with updates
  • the lack of physical switches means you have to find things in the poor software
  • layout of internal door lock switches, sadly it’s easier to open the driver’s door to let passengers in than fiddle with switches.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

After 10 days of ownership we noticed one internal door panel didn’t match the others. It was swapped without issue.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Drive assist works well, allowing you to drive and only needing to steer
  • reverse camera
  • heated seats and steering wheel
  • Apple CarPlay.

Not ready to look yet but I would test drive the ID. Buzz

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

zappi tethered – smart linked to our solar, it works well providing an easy to use app. No negatives yet.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Octopus Agile – paying below average at out of peak times & paying market rate for solar electric I export.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I don’t use any enough to recommend any.

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Tesco – will be shopping around more when the policy expires not because we are unhappy but transferring midway through the policy term meant we couldn’t shop around.

Please itemise where you’re saving money owning & running an electric car

Too early to say, it’s much cheaper to run, no road tax yet and less servicing. But it will depend on depreciation over the next 4 years and they are more expensive to buy.
