Kia EV6 2022 electric car owner review (Switzerland)

Roger Zamofing drives a Kia EV6 77.4kWh AWD 2022 electric car.

This is Roger’s first electric car, he’s owned the EV6 from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 320 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose this electric car?

I was looking at every data sheet and specs I could get from insiders, e.g. for the I-PACE, Mach-E, Volvo, Polestar 2, Mercedes EQ-Series, Audi e-tron, Tesla and others. Then I started to test drive the most encouraging brands. Then the IONIQ 5 came to market, which I liked technically but my wife didn’t like the optics of the car and the same with TESLA.

But then Kia presented the EV6 and we both couldn’t believe that they really brought the first show car to life in such a form and at a relatively low price compared to our 2nd and 3rd choices e.g. for a less interesting Mercedes EQE (we owned many ICE cars previously) with only RWD we could get 2 Kia models!

Volvo just electrified an ICE car with good performance compared to Tesla but looked old fashioned and not so electric as we wanted a new car to be. Tesla didn’t come into consideration as my wife has problems with any touch screen and they still have no HUD. With Kia, there is a good mix in a very modern way.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

1. We just like the well-rounded forms e.g. a Jaguar E-Type

2. We got a perfect mix of technology, money for value, build quality and performance

3. We are enthusiastic about consumption figures (max. speed in Switzerland is 120km/h on highways but we have really high mountain roads) of 15.7kWh all-time average (without charging losses but we charge mostly at home with 11kWh)

4. We liked the interior, the seat positions and plenty of legroom for anybody up to 2 metres.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

At present the answer is nothing.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None up to now…

What are the standout tech features of the car?

Naturally the 800 volt system, the frunk for our cables, the vehicle-to-load function, the HUD, the two curved displays (easy to clean with a micro towel and not reflecting in sunlight as e.g. EQE and others with displays at the wrong place), so bigger is not always better in daily life.

The frequency adaptive shock absorbers from ZF and the Hyundai Group working as good as some air suspensions. We also  had several BMW 530s before and thanks to Alfred Biermann the KIA drives as well on bad tracks. In practice, steering and suspension are well balanced out and incomparable with former models we have been driving for the last 50 years.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

That it has been tested in Germany as the most efficient car on the highway with the highest score ever before much more expensive local brands.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?

We have a local electrical company and no free market to choose the supplier but we are happy with its tariff and only would be happier if we could install solar panels on our condominium. We own only a flat and the other owners still do not see the advantage of owning a power source and an EV…

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

EnBW or Shell – but we do not like the conditions, terms and charging infrastructure in general (not very convenient when it is raining or in winter months). After all, it’s too complicated and only the Tesla Superchargrs work really well (our business partner has a S3XY and a roadster 2.0).

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference)

None we really like – they are not very transparent and we would like to pay with our common CC and not have several sources and invoices. Previously, we only had one invoice with all cars of the company!

Who do you insure your electric car with? Would you recommend them to others and why?

Generali
