Public charging review 2022: Peugeot Partner Electric, Aimforcharginghubs

Public charging review: Peugeot Partner Electric, Aimforcharginghubs

Aimforcharginghubs runs a Peugeot Partner Electric van.

What do you think of the UK public charging network in general?

Not fit for purpose. I did have high hopes for Gridserve but 2 chargers per motorway service station (with only one CHAdeMO) is ridiculous. I aim for charging hubs and InstaVolt usually have more than 4 chargers (all with CHAdeMO) and bp pulse at Milton Keynes has 8 chargers (all with CHAdeMO). The MFG charger hubs in Putney & Bristol are also excellent and I regularly use a Shell garage where the M25 crosses the M1 that has 4 chargers. If I have to use Grideserve I make sure I arrive before 5am. At the moment the only way to get around on the UK network is to leave at 2am.

What and where are your favourite UK public chargers?

  • InstaVolt – Banbury & Corley
  • Milton Keynes Coachway
  • Shell.

What’s been your best experience with a UK public charger?

InstaVolt – locations with 8 chargers or more you’ll never need to wait.

What’s been your worst experience with a UK public charger?

2 x chargers at motorway service stations is a joke. When you pull up you have no way of knowing how many cars are waiting. I recently stopped at London Gateway & 3 cars were waiting on 1 CHAdeMO with nobody using the other charger that only provided CCS.

What’s got to change about public charging in the UK to get more people driving electric cars?

10 chargers at each location.
