Negatives

  • Fussy controls

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes, still charges at the same rate; winter range lower than summer range by about 20%.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Links with app well, easy-to-use screen with good features and links with Google Play very well.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Renault 5

I like the 5 symbol in the bonnet which shows how much charge the car has – clever!

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

Range anxiety and running out of charge – with all the tech and new chargers coming in, there is no need for that anxiety.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Tesla sports car

Home charging unit

myenergi zappi – works really well with Octopus Energy and ensures the car charges on the lowest tariff – and it’s all automated!

Electricity supplier & tariff

Intelligent Octopus Go – 7p per kW overnight which is a really good rate and links with the charger so it’s all automated!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

GRIDSERVE and Tesla Supercharger networks – good coverage and quick charging.

Insurance

RAC – a little more than other providers but includes everything rather than adding bits as you go, happy with them. Very good coverage.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Renault 5

Lease is the same price but saving on car tax, servicing and charging costs.
