XPENG G6 AWD Performance 2026, Bob

Gordon drives an XPENG G6 AWD Performance Black Edition 80kWh

This is Gordon’s second EV and he’s owned the XPENG G6 less than a year. He drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually and the current mileage of the car is between 0-500 miles. Gordon achieves 220 miles range on average, from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the XPENG G6?

I chose this, as on paper, it was as close to the Tesla model Y AWD we currently have and the monthly payments were a little less.

Positives

  • It’s a reasonably good-looking car
  • AWD.

Negatives

  • Driver feedback is non-existent
  • tech is glitchy
  • hard to find stuff in menus
  • app phone key never works
  • TomTom maps are awful
  • frunk is an additional £160 but is useless, as there’s hardly any extra space and gets water ingress.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

It’s still very new. The car is supposed to have super fast 800v architecture but so far, despite using super fast charge, it’s maxed out at 171kW.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Yes. The car arrived with old software. OTA update didn’t work for a week, so I had to use my phone’s hotspot. App was not bound to the car so could not use that for a week. Lots of back and forth with XPENG customer services and the dealer. Now it’s bound to car but MY phone key doesn’t work. The dealer network is poor and they also don’t know much about their cars.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Self-parking and massage seats.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I’d get another Tesla model Y as they just work.

Home charging unit

myenergi zappi

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus Energy – I’m just on Octopus’s regular tariff, as charge once a week at most.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla Superchargers – having previously had a Tesla, they always worked and are half price or less than other networks.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a XPENG G6

Suspect this XPENG will cost me more on trips as I’ll have to use the non-Tesla network. It should charge quicker though, given the 800v architecture.
