The results are in from the inaugural Electric Road EV Owner Awards, and they paint a fascinating picture of what electric vehicle drivers truly value in 2026.
After analysing over 5,000 owner submissions from our UK EV Owners Poll, three exceptional vehicles rose above the rest to claim the top spots in their respective size categories. From game-changing urban runarounds to luxurious long-distance cruisers, here is an in-depth look at the top three highest-rated EVs on the market today, backed by the real-world experiences of the people who drive them every day.
The Overall Winner: MG4 Urban
Category: Small EV Average Rating: 4.94 / 5 Stars
Taking the absolute highest overall rating across the entire poll is the impressive MG4 Urban. Achieving an outstanding 4.94 out of 5 stars, the MG4 Urban proves that exceptional electric driving doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag.
Winning the ‘Small EV’ category (vehicles up to 4,300mm), the MG4 Urban struck a chord with owners who were looking for a high-value, highly practical vehicle that punches well above its weight in terms of standard equipment. It’s an EV that makes the transition from combustion power feel effortless and financially sensible.
What the owners say
Owners consistently praised the MG4 Urban for its surprising spaciousness, generous technology, and unbeatable value proposition.
“It simply made no sense to replace the old diesel-powered car with anything else in terms of purchase price, running costs, or practicality,” stated one highly satisfied owner.
Another owner highlighted how it outperformed the competition during the buying process: “I looked at and tried 10 similarly priced cars and this won hands down for looks, features and comfort. The MG4 Urban was a clear winner.”
The Medium-Sized Masterclass: Kia EV4
Category: Medium-sized EV Average Rating: 4.79 / 5 Stars
Kia has been a dominant force in the EV transition, and the EV4 cements their reputation by winning the ‘Medium-sized EV’ category (4,301mm to 4,750mm). With a stellar average rating of 4.79 out of 5 stars, the EV4 won over drivers by offering the perfect blend of long-range capability, exceptional interior space, and a refined driving experience.
The EV4 hits the sweet spot for family buyers and fleet drivers alike, offering bold styling without compromising on the everyday usability that Kia is known for.
What the owners say
The EV4’s spacious cabin and smooth ride were frequently highlighted in the owner feedback, alongside its head-turning design.
“Possibly the best car I have ever owned. Smooth, quiet, and very comfortable,” noted one glowing review.
Another owner emphasized the emotional connection the design evokes: “It was love at first sight and I haven’t yet been disappointed in any way. Great colour and shape. It’s quiet, responsive, easy to drive and park.”
The Ultimate Electric Driving Machine: BMW i4
Category: Large EV Average Rating: 4.90 / 5 Stars
Proving that legacy automakers can successfully translate their core DNA into the electric era, the BMW i4 took home the crown for the ‘Large EV’ category (over 4,750mm). Scoring a near-perfect 4.90 out of 5 stars, the i4 was also the overall winner in two categories: ‘Performance & Handling’ and ‘Comfort & Refinement’.
The i4 succeeds because it doesn’t try to be a spaceship; it tries to be a fantastic BMW that just happens to be electric. It retains the driver-focused dynamics, premium interior quality, and muscular road presence that the brand’s loyalists expect, paired with the silent, immediate thrust of an advanced electric powertrain.
What the owners say
BMW owners are notoriously demanding when it comes to handling and performance, and the i4 has clearly exceeded their expectations.
“Incredibly smooth and yet powerful with sharp handling for such a heavy car with supple comfortable suspension,” explained one driving enthusiast.
Another owner perfectly summarized the i4’s dual personality of luxury and brutal performance: “Beautifully quiet and refined. Great interior and infotainment screen. Extremely fast acceleration yet incredibly cheap to run. Drives like a ‘normal’ BMW.”
The models above achieved the highest-rated score (out of 5 stars) within their respective size categories. Only models with a minimum of 20 unique submissions were considered for the Owner Awards. All images were sourced from the respective manufacturers’ media websites.
