MINI Electric 2021 electric car owner review

MINI Electric 2021 electric car owner review

Tim drives a MINI Electric Cooper SE 2021.

This is Tim’s second electric car, he’s owned the MINI from new and drives between 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 100 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MINI Electric?

My last EV was a MINI Countryman PHEV and was a disappointment. Its claimed range was grossly overstated but I enjoyed its short lived electric drive. My other cars are both big Land Rovers. I felt driving my 16 mile run to the nearest shop was wasting fuel and causing pollution, especially in winter and the MINI Electric fits my needs exactly. If I need to drive further than the MINI’s range then I use a big diesel SUV.

Positives

  • Costs next to nothing to fill it up – in 6 months/3,900 miles = £21 on my home charger
  • As a single guy, it makes a brilliant shopping trolley
  • It’s huge fun to drive it on my local roads.

Negatives

  • Nothing at all.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Nothing at all.

What are the standout tech features of your MINI Electric?

Its efficiency – worst m/kWh has been 3.7 in winter and best so far 5.7m/kWh in May. Its standard heat pump has been brilliant in the winter.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car.

How much fun it is to drive.

What electric car are you interested in next and why?

As a Land Rover fan it would be great to have a fully EV Defender that has good range off-road and on.

Home charging unit

myenergi zappi – yes, would recommend it and I now have 3 neighbours who also have them.

Favourite public charging networks

ChargePlace Scotland – because I get free charging in my area on them.

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference).

Only ever used ChargePlace Scotland – why pay for a charge when you can get one for the cost of the RFID card? £10 for life.

Estimate how much money you save per month (or not) owning and running an electric car
