Tesla Model X 2019 electric car owner review

Tesla Model X 2019 electric car owner review

Dave Goodman drives a Tesla Model X Performance Ludicrous 100kWh 2019.

This is Dave’s second electric car, he’s owned the Model X less than a year and drives 20,000-30,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 30,000-40,000 miles and he achieves 275 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Tesla Model X?

This is my second Model X. Loved my old one so much that for the first time ever I got a second one immediately after. In my opinion it’s the best vehicle on the road, 0-60 the same as the Lamborghini Aventador, which also happens to be a 3-ton, 7-seat SUV.

Positives

  • Power
  • looks
  • practicality.

Negatives

It’s very, very big but you get used to that quickly enough. Range is great but could always do with more, not as fast to charge as the Model 3 or Model Y either.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes, same range, also same rate, dependent on the charger used, of course.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Sway bar (suspension noise), front discs and pads. First covered by warranty, the brakes were self-pay but that’s the same on any car.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The systems and integration on Tesla models is (by far) the best on the market. As well as bug-fix updates, new features are added frequently, all with free, over-the-air updates. The whole driving experience, including the superb autopilot/full self-driving functionality really make long journeys a breeze.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The Model X can dance, not just a light show, but a full-on dance. The falcon wing doors are incredibly engaging and always get people asking about them.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

Batteries will explode and cost a fortune to replace. Mine has A 150,000 mile/unlimited mileage warranty on the battery!

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

MG Cyberster – looks amazing but a very different car to the Model X so would potentially be a second car.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

Yes

Do you have a home charging unit installed?

No

Electricity supplier & tariff

OVO Energy – get a decent overnight range. Will be moving to Octopus who have a 7.5p overnight rate once I get a smart meter fitted and a full home charger.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla Supercharger Network – painless, no faffing with payment (it’s all automatic) and the lowest rates by far.

Insurer

Insure 2 Drive – easy insurance to set up, not cheap but you tend to get what you pay for.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model X

No regular maintenance costs, fuel costs significantly lower than petrol or diesel, free (for now) congestion zone in London and free parking in some car parks with Tesla chargers, such as the Victoria Centre in Nottingham.
