MINI Electric 2020 owner review

MINI Electric 2020 owner review

Rod drives a MINI Electric 32.6kWh 2020.

This is Rod’s first electric car, he’s owned the MINI Electric from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 20,000-30,000 miles and he achieves 110 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MINI Electric?

Because it is a fun city car.

Positives

  • We have solar panels on our house so essentially we have free motoring in the summer (half price in the winter).
  • it’s fun to drive
  • it’s practical for us.

Negatives

  • A longer range would be good

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Easy to charge and use
  • I like the reversing camera
  • easy link to Apple CarPlay.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The acceleration from standstill is extraordinary.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

You can’t take them through a car wash.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Another Mini because this one is so good.

Home charging unit

We have a myenergi zappi and use Octopus Go – we get a cheap rate overnight. The downside of using Octopus Go is that it’s incompatible with programmed pre-conditioning

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus Go – downside as previously described.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I’ve used them rarely and never had any issues.

Insurer

LV= it went down at the last renewal!

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a MINI Electric

I estimate running an electric car saves me at least £750 a year compared with a petrol or diesel car.
