MG4 EV 2022 electric car owner review

Tim drives an MG4 EV 64kWh 2022.

This is Tim’s first electric car, he’s owned the MG4 EV 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 220 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MG4 EV?

  • It’s the future
  • environment
  • cost of running.

Positives

  • Quiet smooth
  • quick
  • easy
  • relaxing to drive.

Negatives

  • Terrible software particularly Lane Keep Assist
  • interior a bit too plastic.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

  • Phone would not connect (fixed by dealer)
  • radio stopped working (as above)
  • lane keep assist borderline dangerous – improved but not fixed.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Great handling
  • good value
  • pleasing external design.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

V2L capability is awesome, I use it to power my whole workshop – heat, lights, electric tools all using cheap rate electricity stored from overnight charging. Also use it for power tools when working off-grid.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

They cause multi-storey car parks to collapse!

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Jaguar I-PACE – more upmarket and built in UK.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

Yes

Do you have a home charging unit installed?

No

Electricity supplier & tariff

E.ON Next EV tariff – 7-hours per night cheap rate, useful when granny charging.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Only used them about 4 times since I bought the car and I’ve experienced no problems.

Insurer

LV= gave me a good original price but the renewal was up by 60%. So I used a comparison site and ended up with Churchill at the same price as the original LV price.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running an MG4 EV

My last diesel Mercedes cost me 18p/mile in fuel – the MG4 EV costs me 3p/mile in electricity.
