MG ZS EV 2023 electric car owner review

Derek Clark drives an MG ZS EV Long Range 2023.

This is Derek’s second electric car, he’s owned the MG ZS EV less than 1 year and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MG ZS EV?

  • Ease of entry for my wife
  • price
  • long 7-year warranty
  • reasonable servicing costs.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Easy to drive
  • costs 3.5p per mile.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Lots of software problems MG cannot find any error listing. My independent consulting engineer found 20 faults. What does that tell you?

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

No, slightly less range.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Many software problems and I’m in the process of rejecting the car. Pity, because I like the drive.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

None at present because the tech is faulty.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Good boot storage in the MG.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That they catch fire. My son, a London firefighter tells me more petrol and diesels catch fire.

VW for better software reliability.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

No negative issues.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Octopus are just great!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

GRIDSERVE & Osprey – usually find them working and easy to use.

Hastings – really look after their customers but are expensive.
