Linzi’s MG4 EV is both her first car and her first electric car.
Linzi got her MG4 EV 150kW Trophy Long Range 64kWh 5dr through the Motability scheme on September 14th this year.
Background
In March I went to the Innovation Centre in Glasgow to see a number of EVs that were recommended to me via Motability. The reason I picked the MG4 EV Trophy was because it ticked all the boxes I was looking for and more!
The MG4 EV
The car has amazing 360 cameras that look like they’re from a Tesla! The seats are so comfortable and adjustable for all sizes including my 5ft 3 height and short legs. It means I can drive without any issues. Now it’s getting colder here in Scotland I often put the heated seats on and you don’t need the AC on because of how perfectly warm they are, just like a heated blanket!
The steering wheel is a fantastic ‘squareish’ shape that’s a really comfortable feel and also amazing when it’s heated on those cold days. The rear seats are so big and roomy. I have my 6ft cousin travelling in the back regularly and he has so much space he often comments at the level of comfort in the back! Also, having a phone charging port in the back works perfectly for him, allowing him to charge his phone whenever he needs to.
The car feels like an SUV in height as getting in and out is brilliant for my mom who has arthritis! The doors open so wide too. The boot space is large enough to hold my mom’s walker. Also, there is (hidden) underfloor storage for a charging cable and spare shopping bags. The headlights are out of this world, they’re so bright during the night that sometimes you think the full beam is on but it’s not! They light up both sides of the road and the taillights have this cool design at night that looks like lava lightning.
Charging & range
The charging is so easy and fast! So far, I’ve done one public charge and my car got from 40%-80% in 15 mins on an IONITY charger. At home, I charge at night and get from 40-100% in 4 hours. When I picked up the car in September the range was 319 fully charged and now it’s getting colder I’m seeing 289 miles fully charged which I think is great.
Safety
The car’s safety is amazing, I am so safe! The car will alert you if someone is coming behind you too fast and flashes its hazards to warn the driver behind. The rear traffic warning sensor will alert and stop the car when trying to get out of a parking bay when someone or something is getting close, which is perfect for someone like me with limited spine movement. The blind spots pick up everything from people to HGVs. Also, the rear view mirror dims so car lights from behind don’t dazzle you.
Storage & additional features
Inside there are 2 cup holders just under the floating drive selector and at easy reach. There is a sliding storage space in which I place my bag or phone in. There is an arm rest with a deep storage space. There is a sunglasses holder just next to the SOS button and light switch but I use it to keep a spare inhaler in for emergencies. The touchscreen entertainment screen is so easy to use and fast to respond too so I’ve had no issues with that. There is no wireless Apple CarPlay but it doesn’t bother me, I just plug-in a short cable and the phone never disconnects and slides about. There are 2 phone charging ports in the front, a wireless charging pad and a 12v plug for adding the dashcam.
Conclusion
So far, I have nothing bad to say about this car, everything is perfect! I’ve called him Pumpkin due to his colour and because I like Starbucks’s PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte)! I would recommend the MG4 EV to anyone as I feel it’s the perfect electric car right now.
