Past, Present & Future: Lexus NX 300h to a Kia EV6

Past, Present & Future: Lexus NX 300h to a Kia EV6

Martin J has moved from a Lexus NX 300h Luxury 2.5 HEV to a Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD 77.4kWh.

Via our survey, ‘Past, Present & Future’, we want to understand peoples’ respective car ownership stories. With the current climate crisis, there’s never been a greater need for emission-free driving yet at the same time, people are facing rising (and record) energy & general living costs.

This could ultimately change what car & fuel type a lot of people choose next. Also, we are very mindful that not everyone is on the road to electric so we wanted to highlight some of the more diverse & interesting feedback we’ve received.

Past, Present & Future: Lexus NX 300h to a Kia EV6

  • outstanding design and styling, both external and internal
  • crossover shape: lower than an SUV but slightly higher than a conventional saloon
  • performance
  • ride and handling
  • cabin ergonomics
  • range (can exceed WLTP range of 314 miles in summer, around 250 to 260 in winter)
  • charging speed (233kW in summer for a good part of the charging curve)
  • build quality: as good as my previous Lexus
  • 7-year warranty
  • Kia Charge card.

Dislikes:

  • onboard navigation somewhat slow and erratic
  • navigation based battery preconditioning not yet implemented

If you had to choose your next car today, what would it realistically be and why?

I’d probably stick with the one I’ve got. At the moment the EV6 is European Car of the Year for good reason. There is no other EV that combines style, performance and practicality at the same price. The IONIQ 5 on the same platform has many merits but I’m not a fan of the styling or the softer set-up.

The Genesis GV60 also shares the same platform, with Lexus-like aspirations, but it’s dumpier-looking than the EV6 and has a poorer range. An affordable version of the Lucid Air would be attractive but that car is too wide for European roads. In future, as Kia roll out smaller EVs on the eGMP platform, an EV4 would be an attractive proposition.
