Why did you choose this car?
The price, range and the technical spec, plus all the positive reviews were the initial draw for us for the MG ZS EV. We had a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for 4 yrs and were quite happy with it, all except for when that damn ICE engine cut in, either on accel or after the dismal 20 mile (real world) EV-only range. After a test drive in the MG ZS EV, both the wife and I were hooked!

We love the smoothness and power, never having to go to a petrol station again and the dirt cheap running costs. Most of our driving is local, around 20 or 30 miles a day, so we just charge at home twice a week on the cheap night rate. We only travel long journeys to visit family or holidays, about 6 times a year, so that’s less than 2% of our journeys.

Rapid charging away from home hasn’t been a problem at all because when we stop for a snack and the toilet then we plug in first and it’s back to 80% when we get back to the car. We love the car so much that after 2 yrs of ownership we’ve just ordered another.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Price
  • range
  • spec.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • Windows not tinted
  • charging cable is an extra
  • people who’ve never driven it talking it down.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Air con fan was intermittent, fixed immediately under the MG 7 year warranty.

What are the standout tech features of the car?

  • Auto adaptive cruise control
  • speed limiter
  • lane keeping
  • MG Pilot
  • traffic jam assist
  • rear cross traffic alert
  • auto emergency braking
  • pedestrian alert
  • panoramic sunroof
  • auto headlight dipping
  • heated front seats.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this car.
Traffic jam assist is great. Full auto distance keeping with auto braking and accel down to 0mph. This also keeps you in lane if the car can see the white lines, otherwise it just follows the car in front.

What car are you interested in next and why?
Already ordered our replacement car, another MG ZS EV but the long range version this time with 273 miles WLTP range. This is achievable in normal/warm weather based on our experience with our current car.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
We just use the supplied granny lead, no need for a dedicated charger for us.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
We are with EDF on their GoElectric 98 tariff – cheaper electric from 9pm to 7am every day and all weekend too (total 98 hrs cheap rate).

Rate your electricity supplier out of 5.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
I always target Instavolt chargers first. But Gridserve chargers are becoming more available all the time. Also used Osprey and Shell chargers without problems. The old Ecotricity chargers are slowly being replaced by Gridserve. IONITY chargers are the most expensive

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference).

  • Instavolt
  • Gridserve
  • Osprey.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
LV because they include free EV recovery peace of mind if your daft enough to run out of battery power (never happened to us).

Estimate how much money you save per month owning and running an EV compared to a petrol/diesel car.
£200.
