Why did you choose this car?
I couldn’t afford a petrol replacement for my wife when her car died. I’d heard of how cheap electric cars were supposed to be so I took a gamble and bought it as a commuter car for me.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Running costs – £40 per month electricity replaced £240 per month petrol.
  • Simple to drive – no gears
  • It fills up when I sleep.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • Short range – if I travel over 40 miles from home in it, I have to plan somewhere to charge it
  • Odd looks – some like it, I don’t. It’s definitely not the reason I bought it
  • Cold weather and rain hit the range.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Driver door handle needed repairing. No other faults.

What are the standout tech features of the car?
Futuristic dash display. I can’t think of anything else to add. This design is 12 years old or so, it’s hard to pick standout tech from a car that old, other than it’s electric.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this car.
Good maintenance practice for any EV is to charge it to 100% on an AC connector regularly as this performs battery maintenance, balancing out the charge in each cell. Charging to 100% on a rapid DC charger does not do the same.

Rate your EV out of 5.

What car are you interested in next and why?
Something with a longer range so I can ditch my petrol car.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I have a Pod Point charger. It’s quite an old model, predating the smart chargers.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
OVO supplier, their EV tariff. I chose it so I would get the free bp pulse membership.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Gridserve, they are the best priced card payment chargers. Pod Point, they have chargers in most Tescos and are free to use there.

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference).

  • Gridserve
  • Pod Point
  • bp pulse.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
AA. I try not to recommend insurers, so no. Haven’t had cause for complaint though.
