My Kia EV3 Owner Review: What It’s Really Like to Drive and Charge
Reviewer: John Evans
This is my second electric vehicle, the 2026 Kia EV3 with its 81.4kWh battery (78kWh usable). I’ve been putting it through its paces across my typical driving routine of 5,000 to 10,000 miles a year. I chose the standard specification model primarily for its longer range and faster charging capabilities, and so far, it has been a brilliant addition to my driveway.
What I Love (The Positives)
Honestly? I love almost everything about this car. Coming from my previous vehicle, the transition has been seamless. The standout feature for me has to be the technology—specifically, the ability to remotely turn on the heating and heated seats before I even step outside on a cold morning. It makes winter starts an absolute breeze.
Room for Improvement (The Negatives)
If I had to pick a downside, it’s simply that there is a lot of tech to learn about. The infotainment and driver assistance features are feature-packed, so it takes a little bit of time to get your head around every single menu and customisation option.
Performance, Range & Charging
The battery performance has been great; I haven’t noticed any degradation, and it still feels as fresh as it did on day one, averaging around 300 miles of range from an 80% charge.
For home charging, I have an Easee home charging unit installed, which has been fantastic and reliable, paired with my EDF FreePhase Static 24m v3 tariff (as of October 2026). When I’m out and about on longer trips, I regularly use public charging networks and would thoroughly recommend Gridserve for their reliability.
Running Costs & Ownership
Insured through Direct Line, running the EV3 has proven noticeably cheaper in day-to-day running costs compared to my previous car, even if calculating lifetime lease comparisons versus bought vehicles has a few moving parts.
If I had to trade in my keys tomorrow, what would be next on my radar? Honestly, I’d happily stick with the exact same model. The Kia EV3 hits a fantastic sweet spot for everyday usability, comfort, and range.
