Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ultimate 2024 Owner Review

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ultimate 2024 Owner Review

Phil Worley drives a Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ultimate Long Range AWD 74kWh 2024, standard specification.

This is Phil’s first electric car, he’s owned the Hyundai IONIQ 5 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai IONIQ 5?

I thought it would suit our needs but the winter range is VERY POOR and getting repairs carried out is a challenge as my three nearest dealerships are up to 56 miles away. The earliest appointment was seven weeks later, shocking…

Positives

Very comfortable.

Negatives

See above.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Very erratic charging, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t, extremely disappointing.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Charges intermittently both on home and public chargers.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

It’s too technical for the dealership’s technician.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Hyundai IONIQ 5

Very quiet indeed.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

I feel there is quite a lot of truth in the scaremongering.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Self-charging hybrid for me next.

Home charging unit

Ohme Home Pro – lost its memory and settings after a supply interruption. Resetting it is far too technical for a disabled senior.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus EV overnight tariff – Octopus are superb.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Octopus Electroverse

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Hyundai INIOQ 5

It’s a third of the cost but it is not a comfortable experience – range worry, poor dealer service. Mine is a Motability lease vehicle.
