Paul drives a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus 52.5kWh 2021.
This is Paul’s second electric car, he’s owned the Model 3 less than a year and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 70,000-80,000 miles and he achieves 204 miles range from an 80% charge.
The car also came with puddle lights, heated rear seats and steering wheel.
Why did you choose the Tesla Model 3?
I’ve always wanted a Tesla, great features, charging network and over-the-air updates.
Positives
- Reliable
- efficient
- great to drive
- none to minimal servicing
- cheap to run
- very quick.
Negatives
- Thin paint – stone chips appear more than other cars
- sat nav can be a pain (takes you on tiny roads).
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
It does, yes.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Charging port which was replaced, along with the harness as had supercharging fault.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
Everything is accessible through the screen, which is strange at first, but becomes straightforward very quickly. The things it does automatically are actually helpful, except the auto wipers, which I’ve tried many times and prefer manual.
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Tesla Model 3
Pretty much everything about it. It does feel like I’m driving KITT from Knight Rider sometimes!
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
Having to replace the battery after a couple of years like a mobile phone.
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
The Hyundai IONIQ 3 or the Renault 5. Though I will be keeping my Tesla for a long time.
Home charging unit
Pod Point Solo (2019) – all good so far.
Electricity supplier & tariff
E.ON Next Drive – cheap electricity between midnight and 7am.
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Tesla Supercharger network. It just works!
Insurance
Admiral – good so far.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model 3
It’s costing me more than my previous car (Vauxhall Ampera) – insurance and road tax will be payable next year, but running costs are very low.
