Robin Gravestock drives a Tesla Model Y LR 2022.
This is Robin’s first electric car, he’s owned the Model Y from new and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 300 miles from a full charge.
Why did you choose the Tesla Model Y?
Wanted to do better for the planet we live on.
Positives
- Effortless
- quiet
- charging network.
Negatives
Can’t turn of lane keep assist permanently.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
None
What are the standout technological features of the car?
The Supercharger network with its real time information and ease of use. Driving across France it suddenly re-planned our stop because the stop we were going to was very busy (not full but busy) so decided to take us to the next one which only had one car. It knows, it’s fantastic!
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car
I used to have a Volvo XC90 and I can fit the same amount of stuff in it and it’s a smaller car. The under boot storage is brilliant.
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Only going to be Tesla for me now. I drive across France/Spain regularly and it’s just brilliant. The Supercharger network is normally in great places. We travel with our dog and normally we can walk the dog, get a coffee and food. It seems like they think about the locations very well.
Home charging unit
myenergi zappi – can’t fault this system. I can run the house with solar and top-up the car with excess of if not sunny and charge at night on the cheap rate.
Electricity supplier & tariff
At the moment I have no positives about EDF, pay peanuts for my excess solar.
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Tesla Supercharger network is just amazing, absolutely nothing negative to say. When in the Alps we use EBORN, rubbish! Normally can’t get them to work, so ring the number and they get it going, had to deposit 50€ to set up an account and log my credit card. After 5 charges they have never actually charged me for anything yet, so a bit of a pain, but it has been free so far…no idea why?!
Insurer
Direct Line – no issues, no claims.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model Y
Absolutely no idea, never had to bother about looking at running costs. Driving across Europe I worked out it was half the price to run than my diesel on the same trip and that doesn’t include the fact that I don’t pay road tax and I put 16 miles a day into the car from my excess solar (in summer).
