KIA e-Niro 2021 electric car owner review

KIA e-Niro 2021 electric car owner review

Simon drives a KIA e-Niro 4+ 64kWh 2021.

This is Simon’s first electric car, he’s owned the KIA e-Niro less than 1 year and drives under 5,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 20,000-30,000 miles and he achieves 280 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the KIA e-Niro?

I needed something that was high off the road and easy to get in and out. The range and tech on the 4+ were the deciding factor.

Positives

  • Comfortable
  • great to drive
  • powerful.

Negatives

  • The DC charge speed is too slow
  • there is no battery preconditioning
  • the 12v battery is unreliable.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car?

No

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The driver assist functions e.g. blind spot monitoring, fca, adaptive cruise control and the memory function for the driver’s seat.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The sat nav knows when you are going into a zone with ‘average speed’ cameras and works out your average speed.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That the batteries degrade quickly and cost thousands to replace. The worrying myth is about EVs causing fires and being excluded from some multi-storey car parks.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Maybe a Tesla Model Y. I didn’t know Tesla did an SUV type car when I bought the KIA. Tesla cars just work and have access to their Supercharger network.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

No

Do you use public charging networks?

Yes

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

  • Supercharger Network – because they are fast and cheap
  • Pod Point – for regular slower charging, Again due to price and convenience.

Insurer

Tesco Insurance – they were the only competitive quote I got.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a KIA e-Niro

  • fuel saving £50 per month.
