My 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQE 89kWh Review: Ultimate Electric Luxury (Steve)
I recently purchased a 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQE featuring the 89kWh battery. When it came to choosing my next vehicle, my reasoning was quite simple: I just wanted a luxury car and I had the money to afford one. This is actually my second electric vehicle, so I had a good idea of what to expect from the EV lifestyle.
I’ve owned the car for under a year. The current mileage is sitting between 5,000 and 10,000 miles, and I estimate my annual mileage will naturally fall between 10,000 and 15,000 miles. To ensure I got the absolute best experience possible, I opted for the full upgrade pack rather than the standard specification.
Performance, Range, and Battery Life
One of the most impressive aspects of this vehicle is its range, which is a massive positive for me. I am currently achieving an average range of 360 miles from just an 80% charge.
The battery is performing flawlessly; I haven’t noticed any degradation, and it operates exactly the same as when it was brand new. Furthermore, I have experienced absolutely no faults with the car since taking delivery. When it comes to negatives, I honestly have none so far.
Comfort and Favourite Tech
The overall build quality, comfort, and the optional extras available are what make this EV truly great. The cabin is incredibly refined, but the modern technology is where it really shines. My favourite pieces of tech are the brilliant LED touch screens and the highly applicable phone apps that make managing the car effortless.
If you want to know the best-kept secret about the EQE, it is undoubtedly the adaptive cruise control. It is a feature that makes daily driving infinitely more relaxing, especially on longer motorway journeys.
Charging Routine and Tariffs
I do all of my charging at home. In fact, I don’t use public charging networks at all.
For my home setup, I had a zappi charging unit installed. I highly recommend it; it features an easy-to-use app and can also be operated directly from the unit’s control panel. It comes with a good long charging cable, and the company provides excellent customer service backup.
To keep my running costs low, my electricity supplier is Octopus. Their tariff is superb, giving me a great 6-hour cheap overnight charging window, as well as free weekend hours.
Insurance and Everyday Savings
For insurance, I use Direct Line. I found that it covers all my needs and comes at a great price.
So, the ultimate question: is this EV saving me money? The answer is “Yes yes yes…despite the high initial years of high road tax”. The running costs are brilliantly low compared to my previous vehicles.
I am so thoroughly impressed with this vehicle that if I were looking at what is next on my EV radar, it would simply be another Merc.
