Steve Cragg drives an MGS5 EV Long Range Trophy 64kWh 2026.

This is Steve’s first EV and he’s owned the MGS5 less than a year. He drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually and the current mileage of the car is between 500-1,000 miles. He achieves 240 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the MGS5 EV?

I visited an MG dealer with my daughter to test drive a car for her, I got talking to the salesman and ended up buying this MGS5!

Positives 

Fantastic car for less than £30k.

Negatives

Only had it for 3 weeks but not sure if I’ll achieve the range being posted on social media by some owners.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Great kit provided – the infotainment system is better than my previous cars, including Lexus and Toyota RAV4.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your MGS5 EV

Armed with a home charger, solar panels and batteries on Octopus Intelligent Go and I only have to charge every week or so (unlike every day with previous PHEV).

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Heard that a new Volvo (EX60) has a range of well over 500 miles but would be surprised if it was under £40k.

Admiral – cost has increased by a factor of 3 in three years due to claims that were not our fault e.g. theft.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running an MGS5

Only 3 weeks of usage to go by, but very cheap to run. Won’t be as cheap when the pay-per-mile tax grab is imposed in 2028, though.
