Provide your overall rating for the charging unit

Which company installed it and would you recommend them?

Audi approved installer – recommend, yes.

How much did you pay for your unit and installation?

£0

Why did you purchase this particular unit?

This was provided by Audi under a Government grant when I ordered a new EV. Consequently, I did not make the decision on what make or model installed.

Positives

  • Neat-looking
  • well-proportioned
  • integrates with my energy supplier, Octopus.

Negatives

  • No display other than a blue or green LED
  • cannot be locked to prevent third party usage when away from home.

Outline any faults you have experienced with the unit

No faults found.

Tell us about your home charging routine

My car is used approximately 4-5 days per week, covering approximately 200 miles on average per week. I charge usually twice weekly when the battery limit reaches 20-30%. I plug in on arrival at home usually between 4pm and 6pm. The car is programmed to charge immediately to 80% with a required departure time but the energy company controls the actual charging timing itself. Within 2-3 minutes of plugging in, the charging is switched off and the energy company provides me with a charging schedule. The energy company then controls the charge, switching on an off during the charging period.

If you were buying a new charging unit now, what would you buy and why?

As I am happy with the energy company’s tariff, I would be guided by their approved units compatible with the car and tariff.

Tell us about your electricity provider and tariff. Would you recommend them?

Intelligent Octopus Go from Octopus Energy –  a dedicated tariff for EVs and specific charging units. I pay on average £22 per month. I definitely would recommend Octopus as the unit charge whilst charging the EV or within the charging period, whichever is longer, is at the reduced rate for the whole house.

Are you part of a charger-sharing scheme for those who don’t have their own charger?

No, I am not on any scheme.
