Why did you purchase the Rolec Smart WALLPOD?
I wanted to buy British and the majority of Rolec reviews were positive. At the time, there was some grant funding for smart EV charger installations.
Positives
- Well-built
- option for untethered
- ev.energy app.
Negatives
- Huge LED
- doesn’t work with Intelligent Octopus
- poor manufacturer support.
Outline any faults you have experienced with the unit
My charger smart function never worked reliably for 4 years. I had to rely on my vehicles inbuilt schedulers to make the most of my off-peak tariff. The manufacturer, installer and software company all blamed each other for this. Four years on, I changed my car and of course it would not smart charge. I half-heartedly contacted ev.energy again but this time received very personal service from an agent named Constantinos who found a solution. I have smart charged reliably ever since!
Tell us about your home charging routine
I usually drive around 250 miles a week so charge three times a fortnight (overnight) on the Octopus Go tariff which gives me 5 hours off-peak pricing.
If you were buying a new charging unit now, what would you buy and why?
I am hoping there will soon be a CCS compatible V2G or V2H charger, so hopefully one that supports this.
Tell us about your electricity provider and tariff. Would you recommend them?
Octopus Energy – absolutely, yes!
Are you part of a charger-sharing scheme for those who don’t have their own charger?
No. I had my charger installed inside my integral garage so this makes joining a sharing scheme impractical. co-charger. If I were to replace it I would install in an outside location and join CoCharger.
