MG5 EV 2021 electric car owner review

AntonyM drives an MG5 EV Exclusive 52.5kWh 2021.

This is Antony’s second electric car, he’s owned the MG5 EV 2-3 years and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 20,000-30,000 miles and he achieves 180 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MG5 EV?

Cheaper running costs.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • No tail pipe emissions
  • easy charging at home
  • excellent torque.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Public charging can be a bit of a faff
  • insurance seems expensive.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout technological features of the car?

There’s nothing really standout, it’s a good, relatively inexpensive car.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That you always worry about range. It’s no worse than a petrol car but you can charge at home and don’t spend a fortune on fuel.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Mercedes EQC because I like Mercedes but can’t afford a new one.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

bp support is rubbish but I can set a charge time and make use of cheap Economy 7 electricity.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

E.ON Next – it’s supposed to be green sources of energy and I get a great off-peak tariff but no one can explain why they increase costs when fossil fuel prices rise!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Pod Point & GRIDSERVE – usually one of the cheapest options and good availability.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running an MG5 EV

Road tax, servicing & fuel costs.
