Vauxhall Corsa-e: Getting started with an electric car 2022

Wilverine drives a Vauxhall Corsa-e and shares how he got started with his electric car.

Why did you buy a Vauxhall Corsa-e?

It’s available as petrol, diesel or electric and the different variants are virtually identical. After 8 years with a smart fortwo, I was ready for something less conspicuous.

What got you into an electric car in the first place?

  • Reliability
  • lower fuel bills
  • better acceleration
  • better for the environment.

Initially, what did you find most confusing about electric car ownership and how did you solve that?

Public rapid chargers. I’m still learning how the different manufacturers’ units function, what to do if there’s a problem, how to find one & be assured that it is compatible, functional and available. (Zap-Map helps a great deal with this). Knowing where a charger is using GPS is one thing but they are more difficult to find than a petrol station due to the lack of signage.

What sources of information helped you e.g. people, groups, websites etc?

Fully Charged, Zap-Map & the sales team at Perry’s Vauxhall in Bury were very helpful.

What are your top 3 pieces of advice for those people considering their first electric car?

  • Charge at home overnight
  • Your bladder will need emptying before you run out of charge on a long journey
  • Take it easy in the corners! My EV is a whopping 300kg heavier than its ICE counterparts.

Note – I feel that I must clarify why I added this photo to my recent survey. It’s the only photo of my car that I have to hand & it shows someone’s cat sitting on the only car on our street that preheats itself!
