Why did you choose this car?
We chose the Renault Zoe because out of the two local brands (dealers) that had an EV demonstrator we could try (Renault and Nissan); we vastly preferred to drive the Zoe over the Leaf. Since then, we have not regretted our choice at all. The Zoe has exceeded our expectations in all respects. So much so that when I tried the newer Z.E.50 model, I found that I preferred our Z.E.40 model! It’s considerably easier to configure and drive than the later model.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Very comfortable driving position
  • well balanced on the road
  • great boot space.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • Nothing really. Would prefer to have CCS charging but it’s not the end of the world.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
I was really surprised at how well the car holds its range. When you climb a hill and there are many in Cumbria, the range drops off quickly. However, as you go down the other side and the car regenerates, you regain a lot of that mileage. You have to get used to trusting that and not get worried by ‘range anxiety’.

What car are you interested in next and why?
Anything with rapid charging capability. A Tesla Model 3 would be nice, though I probably can’t afford one!

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
We use the myenergi zappi 2 home charging unit. It actively manages load sharing between our solar panels, domestic battery and grid supply to charge the car in whatever mode we choose. Very efficient!

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Octopus Go – brilliant tariff with a good cheap rate period overnight.

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
bp pulse, GeniePoint & Pod Point. All three are reliable networks and all three provide at least 22kW AC charging (the maximum most Zoe Z.E.40s can charge at).

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Admiral – have been with them for years.
