Why did you choose this car?
It was purely down to the drive. It feels like nothing I had ever driven before. I was looking at larger cars but they didn’t have the sporty feel that the MINI has. I had a MINI Electric for a 48-hour test drive and I loved it. I previously had a MINI Cooper S and this car is soo much better than that. The power is instant!

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car?

  • The drive of the car
  • The looks of the car, it’s gorgeous, right!
  • The range of customisations.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car?

  • The GOM is pessimistic
  • The range is not to everyone’s liking
  • No light in the charge port therefore difficult to see at night.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
Despite being heavier, this outperforms my previous 2019 petrol MINI Cooper S auto. The ride is amazing and has me smiling every time I get in it!

What car are you interested in next and why?
Being a MINI fan boy, I would say another MINI EV. However, it will be interesting to see what happens to MINI, as there is news that the new MINI will be built in China from 2023 and will be completely different. I really hope this is not the case. I think it should stay manufactured here in the UK.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Pod Point 7KW solo tethered charger – this charger is brilliant. I have set the permanent schedule charging for 21:30 to 02:30 to match my Octopus Go Faster tariff. I simply connect the MINI and the charger takes care of everything. It’s been a case of set once and go! The Pod Point app provides feedback on charging costs so that you know where you are. The indicator on the charger itself is brilliant. I would recommend a tethered charger for smaller battery EVs as there is less opening the boot required for charging cables.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Octopus Go Faster – I get cheap 5.5 pence per kWh between the hours of 21:30 and 02:30. This is enough to charge my car, put on washing, the tumble dryer and dishwasher too!

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Instavolt, the new Gridserve and Osprey. All very easy to use and so far are reliable.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Aviva – brilliant service and price!
