Peugeot e-208 plays starring role in the Hebden Bridge Pumpkin Trail this Halloween

PEUGEOT e-208 joins the Hebden Bridge Pumpkin Trail

The PEUGEOT e-208 has played a starring role in this year’s Hebden Bridge Pumpkin Trail. Taking place on the 23rd and 24th October, the Pumpkin Trail featured 14 scenes across the small town in the south Pennines with messages designed to raise awareness of climate change.

PEUGEOT were asked to contribute one of its award-winning PEUGEOT e-208 models to feature in one of scenes highlighting the ongoing green revolution across the transport industry, as the 2030 deadline approaches. The car, provided by JCT600 PEUGEOT Bradford, was based at Hebden Bridge Marina, by the Rochdale canal.

The Pumpkin Trail was established by design artists Sand In Your Eye in 2017 and is commissioned by Hebden Royd Town Council with support from the Rotary Club. Along with the PEUGEOT e-208, this year’s pumpkin trail featured a host of creative scenes around the theme of climate change, including a little Greta Thunberg, a life-sized Cheetah demonstrating animals threatened by habitat loss, and some pumpkins planting trees. The 2021 Great Pumpkin Trail Hebden Bridge came ahead of COP26, where global leaders will meet in Glasgow to discuss how the world can become NET ZERO by 2050.

To mark PEUGEOT’s involvement in the 2021 Great Pumpkin Trail, Sand In Your Eye created a one-off pumpkin with a PEUGEOT e-208 carved into it. A time-lapse video of its creation can be found here: https://youtu.be/rkcwBbNtfVYn

The multi-award-winning PEUGEOT e-208 was the first of a new generation of fully electric vehicles launched by the brand, which will provide electrified variants of each model in the range by 2024. The PEUGEOT e-208 features a 50kWh battery connected to a 100kW (136hp) electric motor. Capable of up to 217 miles from a single charge (WLTP), the e-208 also supports up to 100kW rapid charging with up to 80% charge taking just 30 minutes.

Liz Warrington from Sand In Your Eye said:“The pumpkins of Hebden Bridge are a fun loving gang – this year Hebden Royd Town Council decided to place a focus on working towards a more sustainable future, raising awareness of the problems facing us all and PEUGEOT seemed a natural fit. Looking to make more ‘green’ choices is the first step, including switching to alternative transport. Electric cars are fun to drive, and more affordable and cheaper to run than you might think. It was really great to get the PEUGEOT e-208 involved, it’s a cool hatchback – The pumpkins certainly seem to think so!”

Emma Green, from Hebden Royd Town Council, said:“The Town Council is addressing the need to make strides towards a more sustainable future, and the Pumpkin Trail has been a fantastic opportunity to spread the message about how the Town Council is responding and importantly, what we as individuals can do to reduce our own carbon footprint within the community. The use of electric vehicles is one of the many green choices that consumers can make, and we hope that the Pumpkin Trail will encourage visitors to research further.”

Hebden Bridge is a small town in West Yorkshire with a thriving tourist industry and a calendar of events and festivals throughout the year, including the pumpkin trail, which has become a mainstay of the town’s activities. Hebden Bridge is well known for the progressive views of the residents and local council regarding environmental issues. The town council is constantly working towards a more sustainable future, such as planting trees, promoting green transport and reducing plastic waste.

Julie David, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said:“We were really pleased to have been asked to take part in this year’s Great Pumpkin Trail and it was great to see the PEUGEOT e-208 received so well among the other amazing installations across the town. I admire the work that the Hebden Bridge community has undertaken to raise awareness around the issues of climate change, and the Pumpkin Trail is a brilliant approach to raise awareness in a way that is creative and appealing to all audiences.”

The PEUGEOT e-208 is available from PEUGEOT Retailers and via PEUGEOT Buy Online, where customers can configure and order their vehicle entirely online. Prices for the PEUGEOT e-208 start from £27,225 (price includes Government Plug-in Car Grant worth £2,500).
