BMW i3 BEV 2014, George - Living with an EV: Getting started

What name would you like to appear in your article?
George

What is the make, model and year of your EV?
BMW i3 BEV 2014

What got you into an EV in the first place?
I am interested in the environment and wanted to reduce my carbon footprint from motoring plus my research into EVs showed a lot of potential for fun and for economy of use. I therefore did more research, test drove every available EV and attended events such as LCV Cenex to find out more.

What didn’t you know to begin with?
That depends on what you mean by to begin with. Obviously there has to be a starting point to knowledge and before I knew anything about electric cars I didn’t know anything about them. By the time I had got one though there wasn’t a lot I didn’t know about them. I also read the manual!!

What did you find most confusing about EVs and how did you solve that?
Nothing, I wasn’t at all confused.

What sources of information helped you e.g. people, groups, websites etc?
As mentioned earlier, my own research using the sources previously mentioned. In those days there weren’t many groups or websites with useful information and most people were pretty ignorant on the subject.

Why did you buy the car you did?
Because at the time, actually still to a great extent, it was by far the best of those available in design, driving dynamics, load carrying, safety etc. There were no real competitors that even came close.
