Why did you choose this car?
In the past we’ve owned 6 Clios but we got a Smart EQ fortwo for my wife and really enjoyed driving it and we decided I should change the Clio to a Zoe. The dealer made me an offer of an ex-demo and gave me more for my Clio than what I was after, so it was a done deal.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • It’s not the fast charge
  • it doesn’t have the automatic emergency braking (an option the dealer didn’t specify at the time)
  • the wireless charger is useless for iPhones 12 and 13 due to their camera bump.

Rate your EV out of 5.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
I’d heard of self-dipping rear view mirrors but the automatic dipping main beams are fantastic.

What car are you interested in next and why?
Possibly the Renault 5 EV if it’s very similar to the concept. I know this is the Zoe’s last year of production, possibly due to the Euro NCAP zero rating ( it’s still a safe car but 2010 safe not 2020 safe).

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I haven’t fitted one yet.

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
ESB and EasyGo – they are both based in Southern Ireland but their chargers in Northern Ireland are free to use.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Hughes Insurance because I have dealt with them for years.
