Why did you choose this car?
Range, boot size, looks and price.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Running costs
  • Feels great to drive
  • Looks great IMHO.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • Skoda app is useless
  • In-car charging programming is not fit for purpose
  • Rear wheel drive is likely to be problematic in winter conditions (snow boots purchased as backup)
  • Lack of tyre manufacturers on larger wheel size tyres (I went with 21″ rims) currently means high tyre cost, no winter tyre options. Not much better for a 20″ option either.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
Personally, I feel the build quality of my Skoda is better than previous Toyotas (RAV4) and BMW (X3). I’ve installed front/rear dashcams in my last three vehicles and have never had any issue hiding the cable running back to the rear camera. There has always been gaps around door pillars etc. to slip the cable behind. Not on the ENYAQ. It was harder and to avoid completely destroying the fit of the lining around the centre door pillar I’ve had to show the cable. I’m disappointed but for a good reason.

What car are you interested in next and why?
Still a new owner (1 month in) so I’m not looking but it will be a choice between cost, range and boot space.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I had a Pod Point installed. As I mentioned previously, the Skoda in-car charge scheduling is not fit for purpose (crazy as you’d think it’s the first thing they’d concentrate on. It’s like having an ICE car but not being able to take the filler cap off!). But fortunately, the Pod Point app works well and is reliable, as long as you don’t use any of the car’s internal programs.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
We are with Shell Energy (they took over our previous supplier about 18 months ago). As we don’t have a ‘proper’ smart meter it limits us from taking up some suppliers, especially EV tariffs. Octopus Go, for example, offers something like 4.5hrs at 5p kWh. But our supplier offers standard economy 7. 12.30am to 7.30am at 10p kWh.

We tried to change to Octopus but they would only change our meter after we had spent a year on a more expensive tariff. In the last month or two, the energy supply market has been in turmoil and I personally think now is not the time to be swapping so I’ll be staying with Shell for the foreseeable.

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
I’m still new to this so have only experienced Pod Point at home and Pod Point at Tesco (free charging) away from home which was easy enough to use.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
I’m with Direct Line – my brand new EV costs me the same to insure as my previous 3 year old RAV4, which I thought was pretty good.
