Introducing your road trip
Had to collect new car from Seaford with a drive home to Bury. Car was fully charged and showing 296 miles range. Distance to home was 297 miles. Mainly fast A road and motorway driving but being a new car I took it steady probably averaging 65 mph on the motorway. I planned to stop at Rugby services on the M6 as there are a lot of new Gridserve chargers there.

Arrived with 45% battery left, plugged in to CCS and went for a coffee. Returned 30 minutes later to find car fully charged to 100%. Cost was about £13. Overall usage for the journey was 3.8miles per kw. It was quiet on the M6 toll road, so tried out all the autonomous functions. Even took my hands of the steering wheel for a few seconds and the car followed the lanes perfectly.

Planning & preparation
Used Zap-Map to plan route and locate suitable chargers.

Charging
Gridserve – about 30 minutes to charge 45% to 100%. Cost £13 using bank debit card. No problems. Initially pre charged £45 but corrected to £13 a couple of hours later.

The EV itself
First drive in the car and very pleased.

Road trip conclusion
Very successful. I don’t do much long distance driving but this has given me confidence. However, I don’t expect all public charge sites to be as good as this.
