Renault Zoe ZE50 2020, N Redshaw – Living with an EV: Road trip report

This trip was for a holiday in the Cotswolds with the Tesla Model 3. Approx. 120 miles each way plus a few hundred miles over the week.

Road trip introduction

We have gone to various places in Scotland with our Renault Zoe ZE50 CCS and we are up here for a week. My wife has family in Scotland so it’s a nice change of scene.

Planning & preparation

Ordered cps card and use Zap Map and also trying a better route planner pro with TRONITY live data and it’s a good experience so far. 650 miles done so far in 4 days in and we also did 1,050 miles in 4 days last year which was mostly good apart from 2 failed chargers. We had to call cps and had to wait ages on hold but at least there are enough chargers in Scotland to go somewhere else.

Charging

Around Glasgow it usually takes 20-30 mins a day. Cost is free apart from an annual cost of £20 for a RFID card which is well worth it as apps don’t work well and can’t be relied on.

The EV itself

The Renault Zoe, as usual, performed very well for a family of 4. It’s big enough and fast enough, all we need for a sensible price.

Road trip conclusion

Yes, so far successful. This is our second Scotland road trip and we’ve just booked another for later on in the year! It’s a pleasure to drive the Renault Zoe, 13,417 miles so far in 13 months and that’s with lockdowns so a lot more if not.
