Why did you choose this car?
Style, performance, technology, looks, fun! The e is the first real BEV from Honda, there was a compliance car in the 2000s and there is the Clarity Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle. But with the e, Honda have created a jewel of a car. It looks like a show car, made real. It has very clean external lines and the interior is like a lounge. It is only a four seater but space and access for four is fine. It has cameras for rear view mirrors which work really well in all conditions.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car?
- Back seat folds but not split
- No heat pump, only resistant heating, which is less efficient
- No over the air software updates.
Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
I’ve already mentioned the cameras for rear view mirrors. But the e also has an amazingly small turning circle, almost like a London Taxi.
What EV are you interested in next and why?
We will swap our PHEV for an EV. I have a deposit on the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Project 45. Very interesting. Issue is size and price. Will it fit in the garage and can I justify the cost?
What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
A zappi Mark 1 and definitely. If you have solar panels, then why would you buy anything else? As the zappi has a setting to only use the electric generated by your PV.
What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I’m with Octopus on their Go tariff. Octopus are easily the best electric company and the Go tariff means 5p/kWh for four hours at night, ideal to charge the EV.
What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
I rarely use public charging. We just did a 200 mile trip to Rottingdean on holiday. Used Ecotricity at Reading Services, that worked well. ElectricBlue in Rottingdean, slow charging but fine.
Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
I am a member of the Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) and I use their own insurance, IAM Surety. This means lower cost and more benefits so highly recommend.
